Brad Webber figured the big boys would come after his star running back eventually, but the head coach at Pike County High School in Zebulon, Ga., didn’t expect it to take so long for the nation’s top programs to notice C'Bo Flemister‍.

“We were kind of waiting for it to happen,” said Webber. “His junior year, he had like 23 touchdowns and 2,000 yards and really put some stuff out there.

“We were kind of shocked that it started a little bit slow. Then, he followed up with his numbers this year, almost 2,500 yards rushing and 36 TDs. He had some good, solid offers to begin with, but since then, more of the Power Fives came in.”

Indeed. Flemister made an early commitment to Georgia Southern, but backed off that pledge as the bigger schools began to take interest. He hopped on an offer from Georgia Tech that was extended in early-December, but the 5-foot-11, 192-pounder’s profile wasn’t finished rising.

He took up invitations from both Tennessee and Notre Dame for official visits earlier this month and will now decide between the Irish, the Vols and the Yellow Jackets.

“He hasn’t gotten a big head or anything like that,” his coach said. “I’m excited to see some of the fruits of his labor are taking off.”

Webber is excited, but not surprised.

“Just his work ethic, his tenacity,” the coach said of what makes Flemister special. “If you see him on film, he’s amazing.

“The running backs coach at Notre Dame said he kind of reminds him of Marcus Allen, he’s kind of a throwback guy. He has tremendous feet, just a tremendous player who will do anything you ask him to do.”

Webber also lauded Flemister’s presence away from the field.

“He’s good in the locker room,” said Webber. “He’s a leader. He was obviously one of our captains. He’s good with our young kids. In the classroom, you couldn’t ask for anything better. I just never had any trouble with him whatsoever. He’s just a good, well-rounded individual.”

The coach pointed to the people who raised Flemister as a big reason why.

“Just a good family. They’re honest, good quality people.”
