2017 four-star athlete Isaiah Robertson was high on Notre Dame from the moment he left campus after his visit in January. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder was blown away with the academic layout for student-athletes, but also the culture that has developed in South Bend.

On Friday evening, Robertson gave his pledge to become the 10th member of the 2017 Notre Dame recruiting class.

The Neuqua Valley star will arrive to Notre Dame without a set position, but he has the ability to excel at receiver or on defense. As cliché as it sounds, Robertson is definitely a player you take, get to campus and figure out his best position later.

On his first visit to Notre Dame, Robertson did speak with receivers coach Mike Denbrock about where exactly he would fit in the program.

“He said he saw me fitting in with the offense as a wide receiver, but he saw me playing as a defensive player too,” explained Robertson. “We would be able to work that out and see what happens. I don’t really have a preference on which side of the ball I play on. I just want to play where I best fit and where it can help the team the most.”

Robertson returned the first week of April to Notre Dame and received his offer. He also got to see a practice and was impressed with early enrollee freshman Kevin Stepherson. Seeing Stepherson find success on the field was a plus for the Illinois native.

“Definitely,” Robertson explained when asked if he saw a freshman making an impact as a good thing. “A lot of colleges play games about that stuff, but Notre Dame seems to be true to their word.”

Notre Dame is just over two hours away from Robertson’s home, so distance and comfort also played a factor in choosing the Irish.

“It’s a very impressive school and it’s close to home. I really like the atmosphere here, the family atmosphere. It sounds like a place where you grow and mature a lot.”
