Matt Sieg‍ had high expectations coming into Thursday’s visit to Notre Dame and the 2026 Pennsylvania athlete was not disappointed.

“It was great,” the 6-foot, 180-pounder told Irish Sports Daily.

“We got to sit in on a team meeting, defensive meeting, got to meet some of the coaches and then head out to practice, watch full practice. Then, I got a campus tour, facility tour, all that. Then, I had a meeting with the recruiting coordinator and then a meeting with Coach (Marty) Biagi.”

Sieg, who has early offers from schools like Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, West Virginia, Nebraska and Wisconsin, enjoyed the pre-practice meetings.

“I thought they were really intense, especially for the first day of spring ball,” the Fort Cherry High School standout said. “I thought it was led very well by the coaching staff and it was really fun to see it all take place.”

He was also impressed with the practice itself.

“It was great,” he said. “It was well-run, quick in and out, not too long. They have a beautiful indoor facility.”

Sieg was struck by the other facilities as well.

“Just beautiful,” he said. “There was not a single spot that was out of place. It was all just beautiful.”

Sieg is being recruited by many schools as an athlete, but it seems obvious the Irish view him as a safety.

“Coach Biagi had a whole presentation,” he explained. “He likes my speed and my play style and he likes where I could fit in and I compared my game to Xavier Watts'.

“Just to mention that he thinks I can be in that realm is really exciting for me and obviously huge for me. I really liked what he had to say and hopefully I can get back up here soon.”

Sieg was impressed with the entire staff.

“I thought the coaches were really genuine,” he said. “I like how they shoot you straight. They seem like really good dudes and they definitely have a special type of bond.

The next step is for the Irish to get a chance to watch Sieg in person.

“They said they'd like to see me move, so they might come out and visit me in the springtime, the spring recruiting period,” he said. “Then, also hopefully get me out to a camp this summer.”

Either way, Sieg said he will “for sure” return to South Bend at some point.
