Just talked to 2019 NJ OL John Olmstead following a two-day trip to Notre Dame. Olmstead is pretty measured about the recruiting process and has a good understanding of how it works,. Like many offensive linemen, he's not one to get blown away by glitz and glamor.

That being said, he was very, very impressed with Notre Dame this weekend. After visiting in the summer, he wanted to get a look at the gameday atmosphere in South Bend and was not disappointed. He even got a kick out of the senior tradition of throwing marshmallows.

Olmstead stuck around on Sunday to head back over to the Gug for the opportunity to continue visiting without the craziness that goes on during a game day. He met with assistant coach Mike Elko, who is from the same town in New Jersey. He sat down again with OL coach Harry Hiestand, who he has a very high opinion of and he even got to spend time with a fellow NJ OL Quenton Nelson.

Olmstead is planning to take advantage of the opportunity to take early official visits next spring and have a decision by the end of the schoolyear. Notre Dame will get one of those officials and he could be back in South Bend this year to check out a bowl practice, but that is very tentative at this point.

I'll have a full update soon, just wanted to get that out there now.
