Couple of Recruiting Notes
- 2026 Kahuku (Hawaii) linebacker Talanoa Ili has been on the board for a while, but that's changed in recent days. Ili will not take his official visit, and I believe Notre Dame is the one that made the move, as USC has been in pole position for the last month or so. Ili was at USC over the weekend for an official visit, and considering the fact that he's never been to campus and how much room the Irish have to make up, it's likely a smart move not to waste either side's time at this point. - 2027 West (Utah) quarterback Kamden Lopati is currently on campus for camp. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder made a visit to Notre Dame in the spring and then Guidugli made the trip to Utah to see him during May. 2028 First Baptist (Fla.) quarterback Brady Quinn is also back on campus for camp on Monday. He took a visit earlier this spring and Notre Dame is in a good position with him if they offer. 2026 Bryant (Ark.) receiver Kamauri Austin is also working out for Notre Dame today. The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder committed to Appalachian State on June 1st. Same high school as former Notre Dame running back commit Daniel Anderson. 2027 William B Travis (Texas) safety Joshua Vimael is also working out. He holds offers from Maryland, Oklahoma State and Oregon State. - I'm not sure he's camping but 2027 Mount Carmel (Ill.) safety Tavares Harrington is at Notre Dame today. The Irish offered earlier this spring. - 2026 Liberty Hill (Texas) defensive lineman Alister Vallejo is fresh off his official visit to Kansas and I'm not sure a decision has been made ahead of Tuesday's announcement at this point. Notre Dame appears to be the one constant here as Kansas or Michigan are the other teams to watch depending who you speak with. - 2026 Port Arthur Memorial (Texas) linebacker Tank King has had Notre Dame in the lead at various points in his recruitment. He hasn't been to Notre Dame since November so it's opened the door for other programs to make a move as King made several spring visits in addition to his June officials. Texas A&M hosted him over the weekend and it appears the Aggies now are in pole position here. We'll see what happens in the coming days as it's very clear Notre Dame has his attention, but also those around him.
ISD Intel | Behind The Scenes Of Notre Dame Recruiting
A closer look at the recruiting tear the Irish have been on recently and what could be next at key spots.
Three Quick Thoughts
- Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney is having an All-ACC season as a sophomore, which is impressive considering he tore his ACL last spring. Tinney is batting .367 with 14 home runs, 12 doubles, 47 RBI, .789 slg% and boasts a fielding percentage of .989.Tinney went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and 3 RBI against No. 17 Louisville on Friday night to help Notre Dame win 10-3.Freshman Bino Watters is also coming into his own and that gives Shawn Stiffler two key building blocks. Watters is batting .311 with nine home runs and 38 RBI. I'm not sure Notre Dame is going to make a run to postseason play as they still stand 25-19, 11-15, but there are signs the Irish could be a tough out next year. Notre Dame has won 9 of its last 11 games, which includes sweeping Cal and Stanford. - The commitment of 2026 St. Xavier (Ohio) linebacker Jakobe Clapper is a significant one for the program. Entering the recruiting cycle, Notre Dame wanted two linebackers, and they have achieved that with Clapper and Thomas Davis Jr. Notre Dame isn't done. It's time to go big game hunting. 2026 Texas linebacker Tank King and 2026 Hawaii linebacker Talanoa Ili will be the focus moving forward. Both have set official visits and will be on campus next month. Notre Dame will send Max Bullough to Hawaii this month to see Ili. It's a long trip for one player, but we've seen that work before. That said, USC does have a lead at the moment, but it's worth investing the effort as Notre Dame can really set the position up well. For King, Notre Dame entered the spring as the leader, but others have made up ground. He's been to Notre Dame multiple times, so his official visit will be a chance to remind him why he had the Irish out in front. - 2026 running back Javian Osborne will make his decision this evening between Michigan and Notre Dame. The Irish have risen from the dead in this recruitment as Ja'Juan Seider hit the ground in a full-out sprint. Michigan has hosted him a ton over the last year, so if Notre Dame can pull this one off, it likely won't sit well in the football offices in Ann Arbor. It's also funny how recruiting works. Osborne was a Texas lock until running backs coach Tashard Choice left Austin for the Detroit Lions. It opened the door for every school in the country and now Osborne will be playing his collegiate ball at a Midwest program over an in-state school.
