Wyatt VanBoening made it back-to-back weekends at Notre Dame on Saturday, and the second trip gave him a chance to see a different side of the Irish squad.After seeing them blow out Rice last week, the 2028 Illinois offensive lineman was to see how the Irish would respond when things didn't come quite as easily.He got that opportunity during Notre Dame's 27-10 win over Michigan State."Last week it was domination, that's the best way to put it," VanBoening told Irish Sports Daily. "And then this week they really stepped things up in the second half. They faced a little bit of adversity. They were ahead going into the half, but they faced adversity, they fought through, they adjusted and they came out on top."The 6-foot-7, 280-pounder from Carmel Catholic also got another look at the game day environment after making several previous trips to South Bend."I think the game day atmosphere, it has a lot of tradition," he said. "It's really genuine. It shows the spirit of the school and how much pride they take in their tradition."VanBoening's back-to-back visits weren't originally the plan. He had the Michigan State game on his schedule first, but when last weekend opened up, he and his family decided to make the trip for the Rice game as well.That's still significant for one of Notre Dame's top offensive line targets in the 2028 class.VanBoening has continued building strong relationships with offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, offensive line assistant Rob Delaney and head coach Marcus Freeman. Their approach to his recruitment has stood out to him."I think the biggest thing is they just want to make sure that if eventually I make the decision to go there, that it's the correct decision for me," VanBoening said. "They're just continuing to try to get to know me and check in and see how things are going and making sure I know what the program's about."He appreciates that Notre Dame isn't trying to force the process."I think it shows that they want to be genuine," he said. "They don't want to force a relationship. They want to build something and I think that's how they've won games.The repeated trips are also giving VanBoening a better idea of whether Notre Dame could ultimately be the right place for him."I feel like I'm getting a better feel for the program," he said. "I like it. I think it's a good program."There isn't another Notre Dame visit scheduled at the moment. VanBoening plans to visit Northwestern when the Wildcats host Ball State and also intends to get to Iowa.A return to South Bend would likely have to come later in the season. DL 2028 The Woodlands (Texas) DL RJ Wyms Wyms will make his much anticipated trip to South Bend and he's the type of prospect Charlie Partridge has done well with before. Wyms is a bit undersized, but it'd be hard to find a more violent player in the country. This weekend won't be a star-studded list for Notre Dame as there are a few big-time games across the country, but there will be plenty of important visitors in South Bend this weekend. He'll be able to connect with 2028 defensive end commit Darieon Prescott, who will return to campus for the first time since committing. 2028 kicker commit Owen Davies will also be return to Notre Dame this weekend.
