Irish Sports Daily has learned from multiple sources redshirt freshman safety Derrik Allen will transfer from Notre Dame.

*Update: As of 3:30pm ET, Derrik Allen’s name has officially been entered into the Transfer Portal per a source.

Through five practices for Notre Dame this fall, Allen was just outside of the two-deep as freshman Kyle Hamilton and fifth-year senior Shaun Crawford had started to get reps at safety.

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly commented on Allen prior to the start of fall camp.

“Here's a young player that got a lot of reps in the spring,” stated Kelly. “He's a guy that's going to have to be part of that evaluation process. He's part of it, so he's going to get a chance, and he'll have an opportunity to make a statement. That's the great part about camp. Got a lot of cameras on you. Got a lot of eyes on you, and there's no place to hide.”

The 6-foot-2, 211-pounder did not see action as a freshman in 2018.

Allen chose Notre Dame over Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech among many others.
