2021 DE Tyson Watson Enjoys "Different" Experience At Notre Dame

Tyson Watson‍ described his first visit to Notre Dame as different, but that good kind of different.

“It was great,” the 2021 Michigan defensive end told Irish Sports Daily after Saturday’s visit. “It was one of the different experiences I’ve had going on a visit. I’ve been on a lot of visits and it was different. The vibe up there. I saw a lot of the campus. It felt good.”

The 6-foot-6, 248-pounder had a chance to speak with Irish defensive line coach Mike Elston and other staff members briefly before Notre Dame’s home-opener against New Mexico.

“They were getting ready for the game, so we didn’t really get to talk much, but it was good,” Watson explained. “They were just asking me how I was doing, how my game went Friday and said they wanted to keep in touch with me.

“I hope I can get back down there for another game this year.”

The Warren, Mich., native would be interested in learning more about the academic programs at Notre Dame.

“Coach talked about how the classes were and how they’re smaller classes than most schools, so I’m more interested in how that is,” he said. “Obviously, the academics are great. That’s the one thing you don’t have to worry about when you go to Notre Dame is how the education will be.”

The atmosphere inside Notre Dame’s Stadium for the Irish’s 66-14 win over the Lobos definitely caught his attention.

“It was crazy,” Watson said. “We got to sit right in front of the student section. It was crazy. That was the first home game, so it was a very fun experience.”

Watson already has offers from schools like Iowa, Iowa State and Kentucky among others.

“They like my length and how I run to the ball, my get-off and how I play,” he said of college scouts. “I play a five, a three and I’ll play a four, so I play everywhere on the line.”

Watson was at Michigan State last week and plans to head to Ohio State next week.

Education and comfort will be key to his ultimate decision.

“Academics and what feels at home to me.”
