2021 WR Andrel Anthony Jr.: 'I could definitely see myself out there'
2021 East Lansing (Mich.) receiver Andrel Anthony Jr. made his way to South Bend last weekend to see Notre Dame roll New Mexico 66-14.
On Thursday, the 6-foot-2, 165-pounder was offered by Notre Dame and it could end up being a game-changer for the Michigan native
“It meant a lot to me,” Anthony said of the offer. “I grew up loving Notre Dame. It’s very exciting to me because it’s a huge offer.”
Receivers coach Del Alexander offered Anthony and the two have been building a relationship since he made his way to camp over the summer.
“He told me they really love my film,” stated Anthony. “He also talked about how I presented myself and my personality. He said my grades were good and that was a position because some players grades aren’t that good.”
As for the visit last weekend, Anthony was impressed with the game day environment inside Notre Dame Stadium, but he also got to see a lot more.
“The visit was amazing,” explained Anthony. “It was awesome. I really liked the family atmosphere. The class sizes aren’t too big, but they also play on a huge football stage. You can get a great education there. I like the faith-based education too.”
The game itself was an offensive explosion for Notre Dame and Anthony enjoyed seeing the Irish receivers make big plays all day.
“I also liked that they passed the ball a lot,” laughed Anthony. “I could definitely see myself out there. My high school runs an offense like that as well. We try to take shots down the field. I liked seeing the guys make plays on short routes too.”
Anthony doesn’t have any other visits set to Notre Dame, but he will be back soon.
“I’m not exactly sure when, but I’m probably going to come to another game and another visit after the season,” stated Anthony.
When it comes to other visits, Anthony doesn’t have anything locked in, but he hopes to see a few Midwest powerhouses this fall.
“I’m taking it week by week,” said Anthony. “I was thinking about getting up to the Notre Dame-Michigan game. I’m definitely going to be watching the Georgia-Notre Dame game tonight.
“I got Notre Dame.”
