The Notre Dame men’s basketball program did it again.

After landing a big man in the Class of 2020 after their first recruiting weekend of the fall, the Irish scored again this weekend, grabbing a commitment from New Jersey power forward/center Matt Zona.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pounder from Bergen Catholic High School joins Philadelphia power forward Elijah Taylor, who announced his pledge to the Irish just days after an official visit to Notre Dame at the start of the month.

"I'm really excited to get to work and play for an incredible program!!" Zona texted Irish Sports Daily shortly after announcing his decision.

He chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Penn State, St. John’s, Vanderbilt, St. Joseph’s, Harvard and Davidson and others.

The Irish jumped in the mix with Zona during the summer, extending an offer to him back in July.

It was obvious from the start that he wasn’t going to simply jump at the biggest name he could get.

“I definitely want to go somewhere where it’s great academics and great basketball and I just want to go somewhere that’s like a home away from home,” he told Irish Sports Daily when he received the offer.

Notre Dame ended up providing all of that along with being the highest profile program on his list.
