2021 DT Doran Ray Enjoys "Great" Notre Dame Visit, Wants To Return
Doran Ray made the trip down to South Bend for the Irish’s game against Virginia on Saturday and the 2021 Michigan defensive tackle was impressed.
“It went good,” Ray told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “Notre Dame was great.
“The atmosphere, the culture, it was great.”
The campus and the Gug also stood out.
“The campus is nice and big,” he said. “It was a real big school, but everything is one area, so it was easy to get around.
“The facility is up to date. It’s a real nice facility. They keep everything maintained and they take real, real good care of the players.”
Ray didn’t spend a ton of time with the staff, but did get some.
“I didn’t get a chance to talk to the coaches too much because they had to get ready for the game, but I introduced myself to the defensive line coach, the strength coach and the recruiting coordinator,” he explained.
“They liked that I came down and that they have to get me back out for another visit and we have to build a relationship more.”
The Cass Tech High School standout’s impression of the Irish staff was positive.
“They’re about business,” he said. “I saw the look in their faces and they were ready to get down and take care of this victory.”
Ray was blown away by the performance of the Notre Dame defensive front against the Cavaliers.
“Oh my goodness,” he said. “The defensive line played outstanding. They had eight sacks in one game, that was ridiculous. They played great.
“I’d love to be in that type of defensive scheme. It’s something we’re used to at Cass Tech, so it’s similar.”
Ray, who has early offers from Iowa State, Western Michigan and Bowling Green, said he wants “to get back down for another visit after the season.”
“I would definitely like to talk to the coaches more, get to know the coaches and ask more questions about the defense and different situations and calls,” he continued. “I’d definitely like to see more of campus.”
Ray will be at Toledo next week Kentucky the week after that and Michigan State on Oct. 26th.
