John Mooney Earns Preseason First-Team All-ACC Honors

The ACC held Media Day earlier this week and Notre Dame forward John Mooney is finally getting some much-deserved recognition.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pounder senior has been named to the Preseason All-ACC First-Team along with Jordan Nwora (Louisville), Tre Jones (Duke), Cole Anthony (UNC) and Mamadi Diakite (UVA).

Mooney also received three votes for Preseason ACC Player of the Year.

The Orlando native had a coming out party last season as he averaged 14.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game last year.

The John Mooney File
-     Finished the season as the leading rebounder in the ACC for both all games (11.2) and league games (12.6). Also ranked 18th in the ACC in scoring (14.1), ninth in field goal percentage (.455), fourth in offensive rebounds (2.94) and first in defensive rebounds (8.27).
-     Ranked fourth in the country for individual defensive rebounds (8.3) in 2018-19.
-     Logged eight consecutive double-doubles from Jan. 5, 2019 through Feb. 2, 2019
-      Ended up fifth in the country in rebounds per game (11.2) and posted the highest average for any major conference player in the NCAA.
-      Logged 13 double-doubles in ACC play, the most since Tim Duncan set the mark with 15 in the 1996-97 season.
-      Finished the year as one of just seven major conference players to average a double-double (14.1 ppg, 11.2 rpg).

Notre Dame was also voted to finish 7th in the ACC after finishing in last place a year ago with a 3-15 conference record.
