BREAKING | 2021 WR Deion Colzie Commits To Notre Dame

From the first day he stepped on campus, Deion Colzie‍ knew Notre Dame was home.

The 2021 Georgia wide receiver knew it before he returned for multiple trips and even before the Irish extended their scholarship offer this past June.

Perhaps most telling, he still knew it after offers from Alabama and Georgia came in for the Athens Academy star.

He’s known for a while, but he made it official today, announcing his verbal commitment to Notre Dame during another visit to South Bend for the Irish’s primetime game against archrival USC.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is the fifth Notre Dame commit in the Class of 2021, joining quarterback Tyler Buchner, tight end Cane Berrong, offensive lineman Blake Fisher and defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio. In addition to the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs, Colzie chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Florida, Tennessee, Virginia and Duke among others.

Colzie told ISD the Notre Dame offer was one he’d been waiting on for a while and that it “felt amazing” to get.

“I’ve always liked Notre Dame growing up,” he added. “I’ve always watched them. They reached out to me about a year ago, inviting me to a camp and stuff. I started to build a relationship with the coach. I’ve just been liking them and when I got the offer, it meant a lot to me.”

It meant a lot to his mother, Yolanda Jackson, as well. She’s been a Notre Dame fan even longer than her son and gained an even deeper appreciation for the school and the program through the recruiting process.

“The way I look at it is Notre Dame is a great academic school that happens to have a great football team,” she told ISD recently.

At the time, she wasn’t quite ready to verbalize what it would mean to her if her son verballed to the Irish.

“There are no words I could say to you to describe how I would feel if he were to choose Notre Dame. I couldn’t even describe it.”
