2021 ATH Jamareeh Jones Ready To Check Out Notre Dame Again
It’s safe to say the offer Jamareeh Jones received from Notre Dame back in the spring was a meaningful one.
“I was ready to cry,” the 2021 Virginia athlete told Irish Sports Daily.
It was the first offer for Jones, who has since added North Carolina, Pitt and Tennessee to that list. Bit it also meant a lot since he grew up an Irish fan.
“My dad was watching them one day when I was little and I just walked in the room and I came to like them,” Jones said. “What really stuck out to me when I was little was the gold helmets. Nobody else had gold helmets.
“It’s such a top-notch school. I feel like the degree compares to an Ivy League degree.”
The 5-foot-9, 181-pounder from Highland Springs High School was in South Bend for Irish Invasion back in June and got to spend time with defensive backs coach Todd Lyght.
“Coach Lyght took me on a tour of the whole campus,” Jones said. “I like it a lot. It’s not like most colleges. It’s like its own mini town.
“He’s a real cool guy. He’s going to tell you what it is and what it ain’t. I like him a lot and I felt like I can relate to him.”
Jones will be back in town for the showdown against USC on Saturday.
“Getting to actually see them play and feeling the atmosphere of an actual gameday,” he said of what he’s looking forward to most. “I haven’t been up there for a game yet, just a camp. So seeing the atmosphere of the crowd and the people, getting a feel for it.”
He was at North Carolina for the Tar Heels’ close bid to upset Clemson earlier this year. He doesn’t have any other visits planned yet, but expects to add more soon.
For now though, his focus is on tonight’s return trip to Notre Dame.
