Irish Impress Elite LSU Commit

Notre Dame would have loved a victory over Stanford on Saturday night, but it’s becoming pretty clear the Irish still managed to impress many of the recruits who were in attendance this weekend.

One of those recruits was Grant Delpit.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Delpit is originally from Houston, but is playing his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., along with 2017 Irish offensive line commit Robert Hainsey and top 2018 Notre Dame target Houston Griffith, who were also in South Bend this weekend.

Delpit committed to LSU back in July, but Notre Dame defensive back coach Todd Lyght never gave up.

“I always kept in contact with Coach Lyght,” Delpit said. “We played on Thursday, so I figured this would be a good game to go to.”

“I really enjoyed it.”

Clearly one of the top safeties in the entire country, Delpit was struck by the off-the-field opportunities Notre Dame can offer.

“Just the whole spiel about life after football,” he said of what stood out most. “Notre Dame is one of the best places in the country to get that from. Notre Dame has a great education and great networks and stuff like that.”

He was also impressed with the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium last night.

“It was a crazy atmosphere,” he said. “The fan base is crazy. It was a big game. Every home game is on NBC, every game is like that. They said they’ve sold out every game for years. The fan base was there and supportive. I liked it a lot.”

He also felt like the players and recruits in South Bend were the kind of kids he could fit in with.

“Of course,” he said. “I could definitely fit in with those guys like Rob, Houston and all of those guys. Especially since they’re all good players.”

He should be seeing and hearing from the Irish staff during Notre Dame’s upcoming bye week.

“The coaches are supposed to come up and visit us this week and one of them is coming to the game,” Delpit said. “So yeah, I’ll definitely keep in contact.”

For now though, Delpit remains pledged to the Tigers.

“I’m still committed to LSU, but I’m always open,” he said. “I’m taking all of my visits. But I’m still committed.”

Will Notre Dame remain under strong consideration moving forward?

“Definitely.”
