Aaron Armitage‍ had to cut his previous trip to Notre Dame short, but the talented 2021 defensive end is excited to return for the Irish’s game against Navy next month.

“I can’t wait,” the 6-foot-5, 260-pound junior said. “It’s going to be amazing. I heard it’s one of the best games of the season.”

The standout defender from Blair Academy in New Jersey spent a day on campus at Notre Dame this summer and was set to perform at the Irish’s camp the next day, but a medical emergency forced him to leave early.

“When I visited with my family, the campus really blew us away,” he explained. “That was a pretty big aspect of it. Also, the football too. They’re amazing at football and academics. Those are the main components.

“It was pretty disappointing for my family and I, but Coach (Mike) Elston reached out to me like a month later. He said, ‘I’m going to go off your film. Make sure you perform this year.’”

So far, so good apparently.

“He messaged me and said he’s been watching my film and loves it,” said Armitage, whose offer sheet already includes schools like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and Wisconsin among others.

“I’ve just got to keep up the work.”

Armitage didn’t get to speak with Elston in person during his first trip to Notre Dame.

“So one of the things would be being able to interact with him and talk with him,” Armitage said of what he’s looking forward to most about the trip.

“Also, watching the defense and how they perform because I haven’t been to a game yet, so that will be pretty exciting to see.”

It’ll be a busy few weeks for Armitage, who won’t be able to start taking visits until mid-November because his team plays its games on Saturdays. The week after Notre Dame, Armitage will head to Ohio State and a week after that, he’ll check out Virginia and Michigan on consecutive days.

He can begin taking official visits in April and plans to take full advantage of them.

“I’m going to use all of them, I know for sure,” Armitage explained. “I’m narrowing it down right now. I think I’m around 10 schools that are really sticking out to me. I’ve still got to wait and see and keep in contact with all of those coaches, but right now, I’m just planning on going to see those schools and that’s it.”
