When a defense gives up 45 points, it’s never a good performance. This was certainly not one to remember for Clark Lea’s group. For the first time since he has taken over as defensive coordinator, they played unsound defense for large chunks of the game.

That happened, but in the same game the defense played like they normally have done under Lea. They had seven three and outs on Michigan’s first 12 drives of the game.
