Wyatt Blake was in South Bend for the Irish’s win over Navy last fall, back for the Blue-Gold Game in the spring and again for Irish Invasion this summer.

The 2018 Illinois offensive lineman returned for Notre Dame’s game against Virginia Tech on Saturday.

“It was good,” the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder from Crystal Lake, Ill., said.

“It was pretty much the same thing as last time except the outcome of the game was a little bit different, but pretty much the same thing.”

Blake didn’t get a chance to speak with any of the Irish coaches this trip though.

“Normally, I talk to them after the game, but we didn’t go in the locker room after the game because they lost,” he said.

He did enjoy another experience inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“I thought it was pretty cool, big-time,” said Blake. “It’s always packed when Notre Dame plays.”

He did manage to see some positives in the Irish’s loss to Virginia Tech and pointed to Mike McGlinchey as one example.

“I liked the way they played,” Blake said. “I thought they played hard. I thought they overcame some adversity.

“I was watching when their left tackle, their captain had a bad play, he came back out and had a solid series.”

Blake has offers from Northwestern, Missouri, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Duke and Virginia among others. After multiple trips to South Bend, he is eager to hear how the Irish want to proceed.

“It’s pretty much been the same for a while,” he said of the communication between himself and Notre Dame. “I think I’m going to hold off going back there until they offer me or something like that.

“They’ve seen enough of me, I’ve seen enough of them, so just kind of waiting on that offer.”

Blake heads down to Vanderbilt for a visit next weekend.
