2022 In-State OL Hunter Whitenack Excited For Notre Dame Return
Hunter Whitenack has been to Notre Dame multiple times, including once for the Virginia game earlier this season, although the 2022 Indiana offensive lineman had to cut that trip short in order to hustle back to a previous engagement.
“I had to leave at halftime because I had a game that night,” said Whitenack, whose New Prairie High School squad was taking on Adams High School in South Bend.
The 6-foot-7, 320-pound sophomore has also been on campus for spring games and camps in the past.
“It was awesome,” he said of the camps at Notre Dame. “Really good competition the whole time. The coaches were really good teaching you stuff. I really liked it.”
He will be back again this weekend for Notre Dame’s home game against Navy.
“One of their recruiting coordinators contacted my coach since I’m too young to receive those things yet,” Whitenack explained. “He said he wanted me to come up.”
The New Carlisle, Ind., native enjoyed his previous trips to South Bend, so he’s excited about this one as well.
“Hopefully a win,” he said of what he hopes to see this time. “And just to go back. It’s a great campus, I love everything about it, great coaches. It makes you feel like home.”
Whitenack is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, but has received significant Power Five interest.
“Every Big Ten school and a few Florida schools like Florida State and Florida,” he said of what programs have reached out.
“They said they really like my aggression and strength and how big I am.”
He’s hit the road a bit already this season, “I’ve been to Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State and Cincinnati,” and plans on trying to get to an Iowa game this fall.
It’s early but he’s already outlined a couple key factors to his ultimate decision.
“How close it is to home and if it’s the right school. Yeah, football is great and stuff, but it’s only going to be there for so long.”
