2022 DL Alex VanSumeren Ready For Return To Notre Dame

Alex VanSumeren‍ had been to Notre Dame before, but the 2022 Michigan defensive lineman seriously enjoyed himself during his most recent trip to South Bend to see the Irish play USC.

“It was a really good time,” VanSumeren said. “I got to see quite a bit of stuff. Right when I got there, I was in their new indoor facility. It’s really nice. 

“I’ve been to Notre Dame a couple of times. I really like their campus. I just toured their campus and facilities, checked out the weight room, locker room, stuff like that.”

VanSumeren, who has early offers from Michigan, Kentucky and Central Michigan, enjoyed taking in the Irish’s win over the Trojans.

“It was hype,” he said. “It’s always hype at Notre Dame.

“It was a good game. It’s a big rivalry and they ended up getting the W. That’s all that matters.”

He had a chance to speak with Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston while in town.

“I was just catching up with him and telling him about how my season was going,” said VanSumeren.

Prior to his most recent trip, the Garber High School standout was in town for a camp this past summer.

And he’ll be back again soon as he’s set to return for the Irish’s home finale against Boston College.

“I’m just hoping to enjoy it, just hang out again and look things over again and enjoy my time,” he said.

The Garber High School standout said he has “a lot of interest in Notre Dame.”

“They have a top-tier program with football and academics,” he said. “It doesn’t get much better.”

He’s also made visits to Michigan and Michigan State this fall.

“I don’t really have anything else planned out right now,” he explained. “I’m just going to go down on the 23rd. That’s all I’ve got planned right now.”

He enjoyed himself in East Lansing and it’s clear the Wolverines have his interest.

“Same thing; tradition, football, academics. They’re very similar.”
