After a quick stop for a camp this summer, Gunnar Smith‍ was back at Notre Dame this past weekend and the 2022 Florida quarterback left impressed.

“The visit was amazing,” the 6-foot-4, 180-pound sophomore said afterward.

“We got in on Friday and were able to take in a Notre Dame basketball game, which was really cool since John Mooney is from my area and my sister went to high school with him.”

The Lake Mary High School standout had a busy Saturday, “touring the campus with my dad and a family friend. Then, we started the locker room and indoor football facility tour.”

Smith, who has an early offer from Kentucky, had the chance to speak with Irish quarterbacks coach Tom Rees and running backs coach Lance Taylor.

“I was informed they are planning a visit to my high school in Florida in December,” said Smith. “They made me feel very welcome and a priority in their recruiting plans.”

Smith called the game day atmosphere in South Bend, “awesome.”

“I thought ND looked on point both offensive and defensively,” he continued. “Ian Book and Claypool looked unstoppable.”

After the game, Smith and the other recruits had the chance to go in the locker room and hear Brian Kelly address his team.

“That was a first for me to be so close to the team celebrating the win,” he said.

Smith has been invited to Florida at the end of the month to see the Gators play Florida State.

He said he’s really looking forward to the visit from the Irish staff next month.

“I hope things build from there. I could really see myself playing for Notre Dame.”
