2021 S Mitch Leigber Thinks He'd Fit In At Notre Dame After Visit

Mitch Leigber‍ made the journey from California to South Bend last weekend to see Notre Dame and the 2021 safety is glad he did.

“It was great,” the Laguna Hills High School standout said. “It was a great trip.

“I loved the campus, it’s really nice. They toured me around all of the facilities. I got to see the indoor practice field, it’s really nice. I got to get in the locker room too. I just loved everything about it.”

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder enjoyed the Irish’s 55-20 win over Navy.

“It was a great atmosphere,” he said. “It was one of the first games in about 200 games that hadn’t been sold out, which kind of shocked me. But it still looked almost packed and was a great atmosphere.

“It was great that they got the win. They dominated navy on both sides of the ball. They played great defense, great offense and executed well, so it was fun to see them get the win.”

Leigber envisioned himself down on the field during the game.

“Of course,” he explained. “You’ve always got to do that to see how you fit in, watch your position, watch how they play and just enjoy all of it.”

He kept a close eye on Notre Dame safety Alohi Gilman.

“I think he played great, had a great game, just a great player,” said Leigber.

Prior to the game, he was able to speak with Irish safeties coach Terry Joseph.

“I had a conversation about my position and how I could fit into their defense and what I need to work on more as a safety,” said Leigber. “I think I need to work a little more on my DB skills coverage-wise and speed-wise, but it was great talking to him. It was nice to talk to the coach.

“I think I would fit in well.”

He hopes to stay in touch with the Notre Dame staff moving forward.

“Just get to know them a little more to build a relationship and see what happens down the road,” he continued.

He doesn’t have any other visits plans as of now.

“I’m just going to play it by ear and see what comes up and what I can do from there.”
