When Stanford came out on the first drive of the game with quarterback Davis Mills dealing, I’m sure some doubt creeped in for Notre Dame fans. It was a sloppy start in every way for Clark Lea’s defense.

Getting used to the poor field conditions played a part in it, but in general the defense did some things on the first couple of drives that they hadn’t done in a long time.

Drew White lost inside leverage against an angle route.
