Notre Dame defensive backs coach Terry Joseph has been busy checking in on his 2020 commits and on Tuesday, he was down in Mississippi visiting with cornerback commit Caleb Offord‍.

“It was good,” Offord told Irish Sports Daily of his meeting with Joseph. “He just spoke with me about the season and how they fixed things toward the end of the season and how they changed when they lost that game against Michigan and how he changed some things.

“He told me he was looking forward to me getting out there. He was asking me how I was doing in school. He asked me about the all-star game and then said he’s just ready to get me out there.”

The Southaven High School standout will be playing in the 2019 Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game next Saturday. Originally, Irish head coach Brian Kelly was going to do his in-home sometime this coming week, but it looks like that’ll have to be rescheduled as Offord will be out of town preparing for that game.

“That’s going to be good,” he said. “He’s my head coach now, so it should be a great time with Coach Kelly.”

Offord was grateful that Joseph made the journey down to see him.

“It meant a lot knowing he made a trip to come down here,” he said. “I know it’s not an easy trip, I know we’re a long ways away down here. It shows that he really cares and really wanted to spend time talking to me.”

Offord and Joseph have a good early relationship.

“I know when I get there, it’s going to be stronger,” said Offord. “The more time we spend together, the bond is just going to get closer.”

Offord is looking forward to getting to South Bend for good.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “I talk about it all of the time. Everybody asks me if I’m ready to go and I feel like I’m prepared to get there.

“I’m just focusing on staying in shape and keeping my head on straight, staying out of the way and staying out of trouble.”
