Recruitment Rundown
Distance was never going to be a factor for the Hawaii native as he was well-aware any school he picked was a long flight.
Botelho also was aware of the success Hawaii players have had at Notre Dame. Manti Te'o, Robby Toma, Kona Schwenke, Alohi Gilman, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa and Marist Liufau have all had positive experiences in South Bend recently.
Notre Dame got Botelho on campus for the spring game in April for an official visit and that was the last visit the four-star prospect would take.
Mike Elston was able to show Botelho numerous ways he would be used, but also similar ways as his high school used him.
As for other suitors, USC and Washington were in the mix, but it was pretty clear Notre Dame separated itself from the pack with Botelho and his family.

Botelho has the potential to be a multi-year starter at Drop and someone who could find himself playing in Notre Dame’s 3rd down package early in his career. Effort and finish matter so much when it comes to winning as a pass rusher and those are two things that pop out with him on film.
He has an edge to his game that the Irish always need more of. If he develops his hands over the next few years, he could be a special pass rusher for the Irish.
