Recruitment Rundown
Notre Dame turned up the heat on Carmody in the spring and probably just in time. The younger brother of Irish basketball player Robby Carmody always had a fondness for the school and even encouraged Robby to go there. By the time the Irish extended an offer to Carmody in May, he already had offers from major programs like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M among others.
The Aggies definitely made a run at him and even hosted him for an official visit, but by the time Carmody returned to South Bend for an unofficial visit in early-June, the Irish had the momentum. And when he dropped in again a week later, it was clear where this one was headed and Carmody announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Father’s Day.

“On the football field, he can do a lot of things that normal offensive tackles probably can’t do. He can pass block, he’s a great pass blocker as well as a great run blocker. He can get to the next level very well. He can do many things.
“I think his footwork is going to be a major contributor when he gets to Notre Dame. I think that’s going to be the thing that people are going to see and that’s something that’s going to allow him to play sooner than most people expect.”

His ceiling is extremely high because he checks all of the boxes physically as a prototype offensive tackle. He has the frame of a future NFL tackle and the feet to go with it.
He’ll need some time to build his technique in pass protection once he gets to Notre Dame in addition to the regular strength and conditioning work that he’ll put in. It may take a couple of years before he starts scratching the surface of the player he can be, but he showed a nasty edge to his game as a senior and already showed major improvements with his leverage and hand placement.

“On the football side of things, they play one of the best schedules every year. That’s obviously really awesome. It’s just a perfect fit for me.”
