Recruitment Rundown
Notre Dame got Watts on campus for a game during the fall of his junior season and then sent Tom Rees to one of Watts’ basketball games that winter. By the time January rolled around, the Irish were ready to extend an offer. Watts returned to South Bend in April and narrowed his choices to the Irish, Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa State, Tennessee and Wisconsin a couple months later.
Watts was back in South Bend for an official visit in June and admitted he almost committed, but held off. It was clear the Irish were closing in on a pledge. The in-state Huskers made a strong run down the stretch and there were even some late buzz that they’d pulled it off, but Notre Dame won out in the end and he went public with his choice on July 5th.

“As a kid, he has high character. He’s an honor student. He’s very respected, very courteous, seems to try to do everything right.
“As a football player, he’s competitive, he’s strong, he’s quick. He’s elusive, he’s a gamer. He makes big plays. He’s the best player in the state. He’s just as lethal on offense as he is defense.

He’s a multi-sport (basketball and track) and multi-position athlete, which is always a huge plus. That also tells me that he is nowhere close to reaching his potential because he hasn’t focused solely on his future position.
He has great after-the-catch skills as a receiver and he's fluid and finds the football as a defender. Irish fans should be very excited about his versatility and the staff did a great job identifying someone with the potential to create explosive plays.
