2020 CB Commit Clarence Lewis Enjoys Visit With Terry Joseph
Notre Dame defensive backs coach Terry Joseph dropped in on Clarence Lewis the first day he was on the recruiting trail following the regular season finale against Stanford, stopping by Lewis’ Mater Dei High School in New Jersey last Monday.
“It went pretty good,” the 2020 Notre Dame cornerback commit said of his visit with Joseph. “We chopped it up and caught up on a few things.
“We were just talking. There wasn’t really an overall message. He told me about Signing Day and that’s really it.”
Lewis was honored that Joseph chose to see him right out of the gates.
“It felt great,” he said. “He could have gone any other place, but he chose to come see me.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder is expecting to host Irish head coach Brian Kelly sometime soon.
“I think Coach Joseph said he would be by, but I’m not sure when,” Lewis explained.
Mater Dei’s season and Lewis’ high school career came to an end last Saturday, when they fell to DePaul Catholic 27-25 in the state championship.
“It was a great game,” said Lewis. “We gave it our all and that’s all you can ask for.”
The week prior, he went head-to-head with his future Notre Dame teammate, 2020 tight end commit Kevin Bauman, as Mater Dei defeated Red Bank Catholic 10-3 in the state semifinal.
Lewis will sign with the Irish next week and hopes to get back to South Bend again before enrolling over the summer.
“I’m not sure when, but I’m going to definitely get back out there.”
