Recruitment Rundown
Offord didn’t publicly announce his decision until the Fourth of July, but it was obvious it was heading to Notre Dame a month earlier. The Mississippi native earned a scholarship offer in May, when Clark Lea and Terry Joseph were able to watch him work out in person. He was in South Bend on an unofficial visit just a couple weeks later and almost immediately locked in an official visit to return a couple weeks after that.
He was always looking for a strong blend of athletics and academics and when Notre Dame became an option, the choice of the Irish over schools like Kansas, Arkansas, Duke and Vanderbilt was an easy one. Oklahoma offered and tried to make a later run at him, but Offord never wavered.

“He has about a 76-inch wingspan and he has big hands. He can run. He can play in short space and he can play the long ball. He’s quick for a guy his size. He’s taller than people actually think he is until they see him.
“He is a jovial young man, great attitude. He makes great decisions on and off the field. That’s really hard to find these days with kids having to mature so quickly. I would say he’s mature above his years.”

His speed is the one thing that will determine his ceiling in my opinion because he’s a good athlete and has good instincts, but we’ll have to wait and see if he can run vertically with some of the deep threats he’ll match up against.
There are a lot of things to like about him as a football player, though. If he becomes a better tackler, he may be someone who could play some safety as well. I think he’ll play the boundary for the Irish and believe he has the potential to be a starter at some point in his career.

“They told me that the cornerback spot is up for grabs. They could see me being an All-American by my sophomore year. If I come in and I’m doing good, they could put me at boundary corner early, that’s where they start guys off.”
