2020 WR Commit Xavier Watts Ready To Sign, Enroll At Notre Dame
As an early enrollee, 2020 Irish wide receiver commit Xavier Watts will be at Notre Dame for good next month.
But before his arrival, Irish head coach Brian Kelly and wide receivers coach Del Alexander paid a visit to Watts in Nebraska for an in-home last week.
“It was a good visit,” Watts said. “It was good to just sit down and talk with them again.”
Watts was grateful for the opportunity to host his future coaches.
“It’s pretty exciting,” he said. “It meant a lot to me that they took their time out of their day to come and see me and talk with me. It was pretty cool.”
The message from Kelly and Alexander was a simple one.
“I just need to be prepared to come ready to work,” Watts recounted.
Watts had a solid relationship with former Irish offensive coordinator Chip Long and wasn’t happy to hear the news of his departure, but told ISD it won’t change his plans on signing with Notre Dame next week.
The Burke High School standout has been impressed with Kelly’s personality.
“He’s really cool,” Watts said of his future head coach. “He’s really chill. Overall, he’s just a really good vibe. I liked the vibe I got when I was around him.”
He’s had even more of a chance to get to know Alexander in recent months.
“Our relationship has been getting stronger ever since he’s been recruiting me,” said Watts. “I’m looking forward to it getting even stronger when I actually get there.”
And that’s coming in a matter of weeks.
“It’s pretty crazy,” Watts acknowledged. “I’m kind of getting into countdown mode.”
Watts believes enrolling early will give his college career a headstart.
“Getting the playbook early, getting some extra work in, getting bigger, faster and stronger.”
