2021 DE Kechaun Bennett "Thankful" For Notre Dame Offer
After signing a quartet of 2020 defensive lineman on Wednesday, Mike Elston wasn’t finished as the Notre Dame defensive line coach extended a pair of offers in the Class of 2021, including one to Kechaun Bennett.
The 2021 Connecticut defensive end spoke with Elston on Wednesday evening.
“We had a conversation,” the 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior said. “He said I liked how I played and that I was one of the best d-ends that he’d seen and he wanted to offer me.”
The Suffield Academy standout was blown away.
“I was super excited and thankful,” Bennett explained. “I just kept saying, ‘Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.’”
“The education there is good as well as the sport. If I don’t make it in sports, I have something else to fall back on. I’m trying to make in sports, though. They’re a good outlet.”
Bennett also has offers from schools like Michigan, Penn State, Tennesssee, Boston College, Pitt, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and UConn.
“It’s crazy for me,” he said. “I never expected to get this far, but all of the work I put in to get here is paying off. I’m blessed.
“They like my motor and how I never stop moving. I’m always on 100.”
Bennett credits mentor and advisor Stack Williams (pictured above) with helping him get so much exposure.
“Stack has been a huge involvement,” he said. “Without Stack, I probably wouldn’t even have the offers I have now.”
Bennett hasn’t taken any unofficial visits yet, but hopes to get to South Bend soon.
“I’m trying to plan a visit,” he said. “I want to get out there and see how the school is, the environment.”
It is early, but Bennett does have an idea of what he’ll be looking for in a college.
“It’s going to be the coaching, the players, the team environment and the school.”
