There were high expectations for the returning starters at safety for the Irish and it was difficult for the group to live up to them. Alohi Gilman and Jalen Elliott were both coming off of breakthrough seasons. GIlman finished with 12 Havoc plays and Elliott had 13 while neither had an opportunity to step off of the field. They combined for over 1,800 plays in 2018.

That number went down drastically by almost 500 plays in 2019. That was the plan, though.
