Notre Dame was supposed to drop by Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa last Wednesday, but snow cancelled along with the scheduled visit.

The Irish were set to be in the school to check in on 2021 tight end Thomas Fidone‍ and should be back by sometime this week.

“They’ve been hitting me up quite a bit lately,” the 6-foot-5, 218-pounder said. “They just want me to know that I’m a big priority for them.”

Fidone has more than a dozen offers, but said it still “feels good” to be receiving such attention from the Irish.

“They have a good résumé with tight ends,” he said. “Every tight end has been drafted, so they’ve got that going for them.”

But Fidone admits he grew up paying more attention to Big Ten schools, so doesn’t know a ton about Notre Dame just yet.

“I’m just figuring everything out now and researching them,” he said.

Fidone’s offer sheet currently includes schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Tennessee and Oklahoma State among others.

“It’s crazy,” he said of all of the offers. “They like that I’m an athletic, playmaking tight end.”

At the moment, he said schools like Iowa, Nebraska and “maybe Michigan” have his attention the most.

Fidone has stood out at just about every camp and combine he’s attended, including the 2020 National Combine in San Antonio earlier this month.

“I think they just see the athleticism and versatility,” he said of college coaches.

He hasn’t made many visits yet, but is hoping to hit the road more soon.

“I’m hoping to get to Michigan soon, Notre Dame possibly and just kind of playing it by ear right now,” he said.

He’ll be looking at what his potential would be on and off the field when evaluating schools.

“Probably the impact I can have there, not just early, but the impact overall,” he said. “The coaching, the education, the relationships I have with the coaches and how I would be used as a tight end.”

So what would it mean if Notre Dame were to offer at some point?

“It would definitely be big if Notre Dame were to offer.”
