Dre Pinckney‍ visited Notre Dame for the first time for the Irish’s Junior Day this past weekend and the 2021 South Carolina defensive back left impressed by both the people and the place.

“It went real well,” the 6-foot, 180-pounder said. “We got to tour campus, got to see the Grotto, the chapel.

“It was way different than I expected. I loved it. I also learned the campus is like its own little town, at has its own zip code and all of that.”

The Boiling Springs High School standout was able to speak with Irish assistants Terry Joseph and Chris O’Leary.

“I got to talk to Coach Joseph, the defensive backs coach, and Coach O’Leary,” Pinckney explained. “I got to see what they were like. They were real. I respect that and liked to see that that’s how they act on a day-to-day basis.”

Pinckney currently has offers from schools like Appalachian State, UNC-Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Georgia State.

The Notre Dame staff offered some advice on what Pinckney should do moving forward.

“They said to just keep controlling what I can control, my play on the field and handle my business in the classroom and all of the piece will fall into place,” Pinckney said.

That’s what he plans to do.

“I’m going to let time take its course and if an offer does come, they’d be high on my list,” he said of the Irish.

Pinckney plans on visiting West Virginia, Louisville and possibly Liberty in the coming months.
