`Notre Dame receiver coach Del Alexander has put himself in a good position with 2021 recruiting, so he got a jumpstart on 2022 over the last few days.

2022 Mater Dei (Calif.) receiver CJ Williams‍ was offered by Notre Dame on Wednesday and it was one he was waiting on.

"Coach Del and I had spoken a few weeks ago," stated Williams. "He had said he wasn't going to offer any 2022 receivers and he was going to wait to see how it went.

"He ended up offering a kid at Junior Day, so he felt the need to get in contact and he let my coach know I had the offer."

The fact Williams was one of the first offers for Notre Dame in 2022 wasn't lost on him, but the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder already is familiar with the Irish.

"I know it's a great program that produces great receivers," said Williams. "I'm familiar with Equanimeous St. Brown and I know they have a couple guys in the NFL.

"I'm going there on April 9th, so I'm excited to learn more and just see how everything works."

The Mater Dei star will also check out two other Midwest powerhouses in April and one was the first school to offer him.

"I'm going to visit Michigan and Ohio State around that time as well," Williams stated.

"Michigan was my first offer, so I need to go and show them some love. Ohio State, I've heard from the receiver coach, Coach Hartline. I know he's one of the better recruiters around. I just want to go check out the campus and he wants to see me in person."

While it's still early in his process, Notre Dame and company can make a significant impression on Williams.

He's not in decision mode, but there is a chance to solidify a position in his recruitment.

"I definitely want to see the facilities," explained Williams. "I want to see where I can go better myself as a person and student. I want to meet the coaches. I want a family feel. Whatever school I go to, I want to know the staff will have my best interest in mind."

Williams, who holds offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Cal, Georgia, Kansas, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, Texas, USC, Washing and Washington State, isn't letting the early attention get to his head.

"It's a blessing," said Williams. "Growing up, I didn't think I was going to be a highly recruited dude. I worked for this and it feels good it's paying off.

"My coaches at Mater Dei have allowed me to achieve this and it's a really good feeling."
