Notre Dame Has Attention of 2021 WR J Michael Sturdivant
2021 Marcus (Texas) receiver J Michael Sturdivant got some good news on Wednesday afternoon during a phone call with area recruiter Brian Polian.
"He was keeping it honest by saying they had one of their receivers decommit," stated Sturdivant. "They were out trying to find a new guy. He said they liked my film and wanted to offer me."
The four-star prospect had been in contact with Notre Dame over the last couple of months, so Sturdivant has already done some research on the Irish program.
"I was excited," said Sturdivant. "It's a big opportunity to have an offer from Notre Dame. It's a historic school. It's just a fantastic opportunity.
"I know its a great academic school and a really big football school. They bring in a lot of really good receivers and they produce NFL talent."
The Texas native released a top seven of Cal, Duke, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, TCU and Stanford in February, but Sturdivant is open to other programs, including Notre Dame.
"All the schools in my top seven are recruiting me as hard as the next one," explained Sturdivant. "Those schools have all been recruiting me and now Notre Dame and UCLA have entered the mix.
"My top seven was the seven schools I felt the most comfortable with at that time. It wasn't closing my recruitment off and my recruitment is still open to other schools willing to give me a chance. I know Notre Dame is a great opportunity and I'm definitely going to consider them."
A source in Texas informed ISD Sturdivant was one of the more underrated prospects in the state and he would be a great fit in South Bend.
Sturdivant isn't worried about a ranking as he just wants to continue to improve his game.
"I believe my strengths are in my hands and route running," Sturdivant stated. "I believe I'm very smart and know a lot about how to run routes, but that's something I want to work on.
"I want to make my routes crisper and thinking a lot faster on the field to get myself open to make more plays."
The next move for Sturdivant and Notre Dame will be to get him to South Bend for a visit, which is in the air as recruiting is suspended.
Sturdivant also has no problem leaving the state if the fit is right.
"The location of whatever school I end up choosing doesn't matter to me," said Sturdivant. "I'm looking for a place that fits me the best and where I feel the most comfortable at."
