Stop By The Saloon

The Saloon at Irish Sports Daily continues to serve as a sanctuary of sorts for some ISD members as our community – all communities really – remain in this odd state of suspension.

With the prevalence of virtual lockdowns across the country, the Saloon has been a place for members to go to share thoughts on COVID-19 and its impact, those expected and unexpected, a venue for some humor and more.

Last week, there was cautious optimism surrounding the effectiveness of Remdesivir as a treatment after promising stats from a clinical trial, which led to a serious bump in the parent company’s stock price.

DemostrateValue noted, “The drug worked well In Japan as well. Hopefully it's good news! I do think treatments should be given as much priority, if not more, than a vaccine. This thing isn't going away.”

Similarly, trafton50 shared a story on Hawaii 5-0 and Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim’s successful recovery from COVID-19 after taking the anti-malarial drug hydrocychloroquine. While the all treatments come with side effects, ndwilky, CTIrish and Bogle all shared promising notes on their personal experience or the experiences of some they’re close to.

While the Saloon is trying to provide hope on that front, it’s also been a place to share helpful ways to get through being stuck at home.

Ruend’s Ozark Season 3 Discussion continues to grow. Full disclosure, I can’t tell you what’s going on in there because I’m only halfway through the season and the thread is clearly marked (SPOILERS). I can’t wait to dive in soon.

For some reason, Mike seems to believe living in Nebraska has properly prepared him to survive the Alaskan wilderness like they do in ‘Life Below Zero’ on National Geographic.

“I think I could last awhile except for the food,” the boss said.

To be honest, I’ve never seen the show, but many of you have and nobody told Mike he was crazy, so maybe he’s not.

Atl irish admitted that he would perish within a month, but koonja was probably had the most realistic answer to the OP question “How long would you last?”

“I'd last about as long as Kliff Klingsbury did at USC.”

Good thread started by REMND “I miss getting a haircut.”

If anything, this strange period is forcing all of us to appreciate the little things more that we probably never even thought to feel fortunate about.

How are you handling not getting a haircut? Holding out? Shaving it off? Doing it yourself? Letting your wife to a crack at it? Some of us have had more success than others with the latter.

Lastly, you know we’re in odd times when one of the feel-good stories of the week involves Coors Light.

Take care. Stay safe.

And stop by The Saloon.
