2020 Notre Dame TE Signee Kevin Bauman Ready To Report
Like everybody else, Kevin Bauman is trying to make the most of his current situation.
The 2020 Notre Dame tight end signee from New Jersey is preparing to report to South Bend amidst the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
“It’s been going good,” Bauman says. “This is crazy. Here, everything is basically shut down and we’re confined to our house, but it’s been good. I’ve been getting the workout program and just doing all types of stuff to prepare for when we can be on campus.”
The Red Bank, N.J., native is running routes and catching passes whenever and wherever he can, but doesn’t have to search long for a place to get his workouts in.
“We have a little weight room at our house, so me and my brother have been able to work out there, which is good,” he says. “We have some bands too, so we’ve definitely be able to get it going.”
His preparation also includes regular Zoom calls with new Irish tight ends coach John McNulty, fellow incoming freshman tight end Michael Mayer and Irish offensive analyst Dean Petzing.
“We’ve been doing our Freshman Tight End meetings, which have been good,” Bauman says. “We’ve been able to dive into the playbook a little bit.”
Bauman’s early impressions of McNulty are extremely positive.
“I love him,” he says. “He’s awesome working with us. He’s excited to finally get us there. I’m really excited to play for him.
“He’s a good dude. He’s real down to earth and obviously he knows his football. He’s coached some great tight ends, so that’s all really exciting to be able to play under such a great position coach and football mind. I know Mike and I are very excited to have such a great tight ends coach.”
As of now, Bauman remains ready to report to Notre Dame in June and isn’t focused on any of the other scenarios.
“It’s just stuff you can’t really control. I’ve just been working and preparing to the best of my ability. That stuff is all out of our control, but we have stuff we can work on here and on our end, it’s really how much we want to prepare to get ready to report whenever that time is.”
