2020 NFL Draft | Notre Dame's Gilman picked by Chargers
From unheralded recruit to the Naval Academy to Notre Dame team captain. And, finally, to the NFL.
Alohi Gilman’s remarkable tale of football resilience added another chapter, when the former Fighting Irish safety was chosen by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2020 NFL Draft’s sixth round and 186th overall.
After a breakout freshman campaign at Navy in 2016, Gilman transferred to Notre Dame and quickly established himself as a natural leader and burgeoning big-play safety for the Fighting Irish. Gilman was named Notre Dame’s Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year in 2017 before Gilman appeared in all 26 games of his Irish career, where he collected 169 tackles, 14 tackles for losses, six fumbles forced and three interceptions.
Here’s a look at how the 5-foot-10-inch, 201-pound Gilman stacks up in the NFL Draft compared to where he was ranked entering college as part of Navy’s 2015 signing class and Notre Dame’s 2020 Draft class:
