It's what Saturday in South Bend is supposed to be like as No. 17 Stanford faced off against No. 7 Notre Dame.
Notre Dame found itself down 10-3 at the half as Ben Gardner forced an Everett Golson fumble and Chase Thomas recovered it in the endzone. Jordan Williamson nailed a 48-yard field goal to end the half, but the Irish came roaring back in the second half.
Golson found tight end Tyler Eifert for a 24-yard scoring strike to complete an 8-play, 52-yard drive to tie the game at 10 with 14:15 left to play.
The Cardinal went 68 yards in 16 plays, but had to settle for a 27-yard field goal with 6:12 left in regulation.
Kyle Brindza made one of his many clutch kicks to tie the game with 20 seconds left, which capped off a big-time 12-play, 79-yard drive.
In overtime, Tommy Rees found TJ Jones on a quick seven-yard slant to put the Irish up 20-13.
Notre Dame then stopped Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor four times inside the four-yard line, including the famous fourth-and-goal from the one.
"When you're talking to your team all week about a heavyweight match, and you can't keep taking body blows, you have to stand in there and sooner or later, you've got to be the one that delivers," Kelly said.
Manti Te'o recorded 11 tackles in the game.
