Serious Interest Between Notre Dame, 2022 CB Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson said he’d be serious about Notre Dame if the school came through with a scholarship offer.
“They’re pretty much just like Mater Dei,” the 2022 California cornerback said, comparing Notre Dame to his current high school. “They’re really traditional and mostly about school and football above everything else.
“It’s just really traditional, they’re all about business over there.”
But Jackson didn’t realize how serious the Irish were about him until he got on the phone with them on Tuesday morning, when he was told he had that offer.
“I really didn’t know I was going to get Notre Dame, especially this early,” Jackson told Irish Sports Daily. “It seems surreal honestly.”
Jackson adds Notre Dame to a list that already included USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma among several others.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder said he “most definitely” plans to get to South Bend at some point.
“I’m going up there,” he said. “I was originally supposed to go up there whether I got the offer or not. I just wanted to check it out and see if they really messed with me and now that I know they mess with me, I’m going to take them more seriously.
“They’re going to be up there throughout my whole recruitment.”
Jackson is looking forward to getting there to see it himself.
“I just want to see if I see myself playing up there, the relationships with all of those coaches, not just the position coach and just making sure it feels like home with me and my family,” he said.
Jackson says attending Mater Dei is preparing himself for the next level.
“I always play against the best,” he said. “If I went to a regular school, college would be more difficult for me. Since I play in such good league and against the top prospects in the whole nation, it’s just getting me ready for college.”
Similarly, he challenges himself by playing for top 7-on-7 program Ground Zero and coaches Anthony Brown and Armond Hawkins.
“Coach Brown and Coach Armond are big mentors for me. Coach Brown is about business. He’s my DB coach. He gets me all of the techniques and everything to lock up the receiver in front of me. He just gets me ready for any competition ahead of me.”
