Notre Dame Lands NC State Graduate Transfer CB Nick McCloud

Notre Dame continues to strengthen its roster for the 2020 as North Carolina State graduate transfer Nick McCloud has chosen the Irish over Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback started 21 games for NC State over the last three years, including 11 in 2018. McCloud was named a captain for the Wolfpack in 2019, but then suffered a knee injury in game one and returned to play against Clemson, but didn't play following the game.

In 36 career games, McCloud recorded 106 tackles, 20 pass breakups and three interceptions.

McCloud will have the chance to start from day one if he’s healthy for the Irish as there isn’t much experience returning in the Notre Dame secondary. He'll join TaRiq Bracy and Shaun Crawford as the only cornerbacks with meaningful game experience as sophomores Cam Hart, Isaiah Rutherford and KJ Wallace didn't too many game reps last fall as freshmen.

Out of high school, McCloud held offers from Appalachian State, Buffalo, Charlotte, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Furman, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Kansas State, Marshall, Maryland, UMass, Miami (OH), Northwestern, UCLA, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.

McCloud is the third graduate transfer Notre Dame has added this offseason as he joins receiver Ben Skowronek (Northwestern) and safety Isaiah Pryor (Ohio State).
