Notre Dame Baseball Lands Two Key Graduate Transfers
Notre Dame baseball has been active in the Transfer Portal as Link Jarrett attempts to build the program after a promising 11-2 start in 2020.
The Irish landed what should be a significant piece to the 2021 roster as catcher and outfielder Alex Brait will transfer from Florida Gulf Coast University.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was named 2018 First Team All-Conference and 2019 Second Team All-Conference after being named to the ASUN All-Freshman team in 2017.
Notre Dame will be getting a player who should hit in the middle of the order, but also brings a ton of experience to South Bend as Brait has played in 149 games.
Brait has a career batting average of .314 in 589 at-bats with 112 runs scored, 185 hits, 11 home runs and 74 RBIs.
In his final year, Brait became the first player in program history to be named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List.
Notre Dame beat out Arkansas for Brait’s commitment.
The Irish will also add to its pitching rotation and they got a guy who could play a significant role in the rotation in Pennsylvania graduate transfer Christian Scafidi.
Scafidi was the Ivy Pitcher of the Year and a Unanimous First Team All-Ivy Selection in 2019.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder posted a record of 6-1 in 2019 with 59 strikeouts and giving up just a .234 batting average to opponents in 68.2 innings pitched.
Scafidi was 2-0 in 2020 in two starts and was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week after a complete game with 11 strikeouts, zero walks and one unearned run against Florida International.
For his career, Scafidi is 11-6 with 141 strikeouts in 158.1 innings pitched and held opponents to .256 batting average.
Scafidi chose the Irish over Clemson and Pitt.
