Skylar Diggins-Smith Joins LeBron James to Create 'More Than a Vote'
Skylar Diggins-Smith has teamed up with LeBron James and many other prominent black athletes and celebrities to start More Than a Vote.
The organization's goal is to inspire African-Americans to register and vote in November, but also to protect voting rights and amplify voices when it comes to racial injustice.
"Because of everything that's going on, people are finally starting to listen to us — we feel like we're finally getting a foot in the door," James told the New York Times. "How long is up to us. We don't know. But we feel like we're getting some ears and some attention, and this is the time for us to finally make a difference."
For Diggins-Smith, it was an easy decision to join forces for James as it's another platform to put action behind her feelings.
"I'm sick of seeing unarmed black men killed by the police," said Diggins-Smith to the New York Times.
The goal is simple and one that can carry over lifetimes as Trae Young, Jalen Rose, Kevin Hart, Draymond Green, Udonis Haslem and Alvin Kamara also will be part of the organization.
"If people my age see that I'm going out and I'm voting and I'm talking," Young said. "Maybe the next 21-year-old will."
