2021 Clarkston (Mich.) offensive lineman Rocco Spindler‍ has set a commitment date.

The four-star prospect will announce his college decision on August 8th at 6:00pm at his high school.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder trimmed his list down to LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State earlier this summer and those will be the hats on the table next month.

That said, Spindler's recruitment will likely be coming down to Michigan and Notre Dame as the two programs have surged ahead of other schools for at least the last six months.

It will be fascinating to see what Spindler values more in his recruitment as both schools are similar yet different.

Michigan is the hometown program and the school that most have felt Spindler would go to throughout his recruitment. The Wolverines plan to take a big offensive line class and it could be as many as six prospects. There definitely seems to be a sense of comfort with the Wolverines staff and Ann Arbor is a short drive from Clarkston.

Notre Dame is a little further and can offer Spindler a little more independence as he wouldn't be so close to Clarkston. Spindler has a great relationship with Irish commit Blake Fisher and the two have built that relationship since they were freshmen in high school. The path to playing at Notre Dame might also be a little more intriguing as Spindler would be one of the few true guards Jeff Quinn has brought into the program over the last few years.

Penn State would be the program in third place as offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has made him a priority and Spindler does have family in the area.

I would expect Michigan and Notre Dame to have one more big Zoom call with Spindler as they look to make a final impression before he shuts it down to make his decision.

It's a tough read as Spindler was a prospect who was set on taking his official visits and he’s come to the realization fall visits aren’t likely to happen, but he also doesn't want to wait it out as he'll be an early enrollee at whatever school he picks next month.
