Unable to take traditional visits this summer because of the dead period that has been in place since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis in March, Chance Tucker‍ wasn’t going to let that prevent him from being proactive about his recruitment.

That’s why the 2021 California cornerback quietly took a pair of independent unofficial visits earlier this month to Notre Dame and Washington.

The Irish and the Huskies were seemingly atop the Crespi Carmelite star’s list and being able to compare each school was enough for him to make a decision.

Tucker just announced his commitment to Notre Dame, giving the Irish their 13th commitment in the Class of 2021 and their third cornerback, joining Ryan Barnes‍ and Philip Riley‍.

In addition to Washington, the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder had offers from schools like Washington State, Oregon State, Northwestern, Arizona, Colorado and a host of Ivy League schools among others.

Tucker formed solid relationships with Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and defensive coordinator Clark Lea.

He was fired up about receiving the offer from the Irish last month.

“This one stood out just because of how prestigious their academics are at Notre Dame,” Tucker said. “At the same time, they also have a great football program and great football tradition. It’s kind of like they have the best of both worlds.”
