Notre Dame has its first commitment of the 2022 recruiting class and it comes from the state of Indiana as Zionsville offensive lineman Joey Tanona‍ has committed to the Irish.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder was offered by Notre Dame on May 1st and chose the Irish over Arizona State, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Tennessee.

Ohio State might have been the program to beat entering the spring, but the May offer from Notre Dame was timely in the end.

Notre Dame will keep the top offensive lineman in the state in back-to-back classes as he'll join forces with 2021 Avon (Ind.) offensive lineman Blake Fisher.

Like Fisher, Tanona will give Jeff Quinn a nasty athlete who can play tackle or guard. Tanona doesn’t hesitate to put his opponent in the dirt and then make sure to give them something to about.

ISD's Jamie Uyeyama's Thoughts:
"I really like Tanona as a prospect. He's got shock in his hands. He fits and rocks defenders back on contact. He's a nasty player and is so much better than his competition.

"Tanona is a really good athlete for his size, moves well as a puller, and reaches edge defenders easily. He displays good knee bend as a run blocker and plays with good leverage out of two-point. His pad level is a bit high in his pass set, but he has the feet and the punch to develop into a left tackle at the next level."
