Film Don't Lie | Logan Diggs
Notre Dame went all in for their RB1 in the 2021 cycle. Clemson had too strong of a hand, though, and the Irish had no chips left after it was all said and done.
That forced running backs coach Lance Taylor to start over and one of the first backs he targeted was Logan Diggs. Taylor had to put in work to catch up in his recruitment, but that work has now paid off with a commitment from one of the more underrated backs in the country.
I love Diggs’ game and think he could end up being one of the true steals of the cycle. He makes a lot of plays happen even when there isn’t much of a play there to make.

What he does best:
Diggs has good vision and great cutting ability. He can stick his foot in the ground and explode through the hole like he does on this run.
He’s a very good athlete with a good burst and consistently makes defenders miss in the backfield or the open field. There are so many plays on film where his blocking lets him down and he is able to maximize yards despite that. Then when he gets down the field, he doesn’t settle and is always looking for more.
I love the way he finishes runs. He runs hard through contact and is the type of back who will have a run that is blocked for five yards and he can turn it into double that or more with his effort. His strength and balance really stand out on film.
This run pretty much says it all about Diggs. First he has to run through a tackle in the backfield, then he breaks the ankle of the force player with a cut, and then finishes the run carrying defenders with him down field.
He catches the ball well and does a nice job in blitz pick up as well. At this stage of his development, his all-around game is impressive.
What he needs to improve:
He doesn’t have the benefit of holes one can drive a truck through so there aren’t a lot of chances for him to hit home runs consistently. In saying that, he can get the corner with his speed, but until we see him show he has another gear he can kick it into with explosive runs, that’s going to be a question mark.
What’s his ceiling?
Diggs has two critical traits that in my mind make him an elite prospect.
He has the vision and lateral agility to make defenders miss and he has the strength and balance to consistently gain yards after contact. Those are so important for a back at the college level and they are why I am so high on Diggs as a prospect.
I’m fine being alone in my current evaluation with him because of that, especially because I know he is only going to get bigger and stronger.
There are other backs with splashier highlights, but that has less to do with him than what he is working with in front of him. I think he can be an every-down back for Notre Dame who can excel behind better blocking in college.
He has the talent to eventually be a starter and has the traits of a back who can be a closer in the fourth quarter.
