Notre Dame and South Florida Set Three-Game Series

Notre Dame needed to add a game to the 2020 schedule after losing Western Michigan due to the MAC shutting football down.

South Florida has answered the bell as first-year head coach Jeff Scott will bring his Bulls to South Bend on September 19th.

"We are very excited for our program and our players to have the opportunity to play Notre Dame in South Bend in front of a national TV audience during the 2020 season," USF Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly stated. "It's not only a terrific addition for this season, but will bring Notre Dame to play in Tampa for the first time and adds the Irish to a terrific slate of future nonconference opponents that includes teams such as Alabama, Florida, Louisville, Miami, NC State, Boise State and BYU."

The two programs will also play two more games, but those dates have yet to be announced. The Irish will travel to Raymond James Stadium and South Florida will return to Notre Dame Stadium.

Scott took the job at South Florida after 12 years at his alma mater, Clemson. He served as the receivers coach since 2008 and was named co-offensive coordinator in 2015.

It's also worth noting a familiar face will also be returning to South Bend. 26-year-old Charlie Weis Jr. is the Bulls offensive coordinator and the son of former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis. Weis spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic under Lane Kiffin.

South Florida finished 4-8 in 2019 and it led to Charlie Strong getting fired after three seasons in Tampa.

The Bulls didn't fare well against top competition last year as they fell to Wisconsin 49-0, Navy 35-3 and Memphis 49-10. However, they did compete with Cincinnati, but fell 20-17.
