'22 Dual-Sport Star Zooms with Notre Dame Baseball and Football
Notre Dame football is searching for a top linebacker and the Fighting Irish baseball is looking for a starter.
Enter 2022 McQueen (Nev.) linebacker Robby Snelling, who was offered by both programs on August 11.
Last Wednesday, Notre Dame head baseball coach Link Jarrett and his staff along with a few members of the football staff connected with Snelling over Zoom.
"It was great," Snelling told Irish Sports Daily. "We had a good talk he told me about how he coaches and how the team had to make changes this year. Just reiterated much they want me."
The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder is in the 95th percentile for his 88 mph fastball and many feel he has a future in the big league as he's a lefty.
Jarrett explained Notre Dame's plan, which falls in line with most programs.
"Coach Jarrett told me that he sees me as a weekend starter," said Snelling. "They want to be able to give me at least one day off during the week and that is what would work out the best for it."
The Zoom call was a productive one and the next step will be to get him to South Bend for a visit.
"I grew up always hearing the trips my dad took to the camps and big colleges," explained Snelling. "He went to Notre Dame, Stanford, Cal and he's talked about all the facilities and all the campuses he was able to visit.
"The big one for him was talking about Notre Dame and how beautiful it is over there. That's always been super exciting for me to hear. I was really excited when Coach Polian told me and I'm excited to keep building a relationship with them."
It's also clear Snelling is becoming a priority for both programs and the McQueen star appreciates the effort.
"I definitely feel more comfortable with them," said Snelling. "They are definitely one of my top schools."
